I am ready to face senate, Governor Wycliffe Oparanya declares

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has insisted that he is ready to face the senate Public Accounts Committee (PAC) denying claims that he has defied their summons.

However, he dismissed the committee saying the audit report is incomplete and he cannot shed more light on alleged queries.

"I am ready to face the committee if there is need to do so. The auditor general has not finalised his auditing and the report is incomplete," said Oparanya.

He accused the senate of witch-hunt saying he is not an account officer to account for some of the queries.

He said the audit is supposed to be tabled in the county assembly and if there are any queries raised by MCAs then they will have to forward it to the senate.

"Accounting officers have not been called for by the county assembly to raise any queries in their departments. How will I go ahead to face the senate yet the county assembly has not gone through the audit report? The auditor general is still doing his work. The senate should stop intimidating us," he said.

PAC has issued threats that it will arrest and frog march the governor for failing to honour summons to appear before the committee.

The committee also want a special audit to be conducted in the county and the governor to answer some of the pending audit queries.
