Protestant bishops and pastors will fast for 40 days over deeply entrenched corruption.

Addressing gospel ministers during a prayer meeting in Thika, Calvary Chosen Centre General Overseer Bishop David Ngari said corruption was now beyond any human control hence the need to divine intervention through fasting.

Mr Ngari noted that even though the President had tried his best in tackling graft, the vice had continued to flourish.

The bishop said the 40 days fasting, which will begin on January 2, 2016 to February 10, will not only target corruption, but also rising political intolerance and selfishness exhibited by some religious leaders.

spiritual matter

"Kenyans have become desperate due to runaway corruption in Government and the Church. Their cries have not stopped the vice. The Government and the Church have totally failed to tacked graft and it is high time we left it to God to fight the battle for us," he said.

He said President Uhuru Kenyatta is trying his best to fight graft, but with little success.

"The corruption menace in the country is now a spiritual matter. It is now beyond the President and his government and that is why we are seeking God's intervention. It has now become His battle," he said.

The pastors present at the prayer meeting observed that as a result of corruption, Kenya's image abroad had been severely dented.

They said they would be seeking for special nomination slots for the church to the National Assembly, Senate, state corporations and independent corporations in order to help bring transparency and accountability in these bodies.

 fear God

"We need people who fear God in leadership positions. The current administration as constituted lacks the fear and the leadership of God," said a pastor who attended the prayer meeting.

The clerics resolved to push for the church leaders to vie for political positions come 2017.

They vowed to rally the faithfuls countrywide to elect candidates who will be sponsored by the church so that they would get the desired results.
