Boy, 5, killed in Kibera inferno

A five-year-old boy was killed in a fire in Kibera slums, Nairobi yesterday. The fire is said to have started from a structure near where he was sleeping.

Ten other houses were destroyed and police say they are yet to know the cause of the fire. Kilimani police boss Peter Katam said the fire took long to contain because of lack of access roads to the scene.

Elsewhere, police are looking for a man who killed his two-year-old son following a domestic quarrel in Lunga Lunga slums.

The man had quarreled with his wife over unclear issues when he turned on the child and killed him on Wednesday night. This was after the woman had left the house briefly.

The woman told police she came back minutes later and found the child lying in a pool of blood. Efforts to trace the man are ongoing, police said.

And in Ruaraka, police are investigating an incident in which a middle-aged woman collapsed and died at a factory.

The woman was on duty on Tuesday at one of the factories there that make garments when she collapsed. She was rushed to a nearby clinic where she was pronounced dead. Police said they are investigating to establish the cause of the death.
