Man beats son to death 'for losing Sh40'

A man from Sitikho village in Webuye West Constituency is being held at Webuye Police Station for allegedly beating his son to death for misplacing Sh40.

Confirming the incident, Webuye OCPD Isaac Odumbe said the suspect, Joseph Nyongesa, was angered by the behaviour of his son, whom he had sent to buy maize flour for supper but he lost the money midway and returned home empty-handed.

"The suspect is alleged to have sent his son to buy the maize flour but when he returned in the evening he found his family eating sweet potatoes. When he inquired why they were not eating Ugali, his wife told him their son had lost the money on the way. He grabbed the son and beat him senselessly, leaving him for dead," said Mr Odumbe.

He said the Class Four pupil at a local primary school succumbed to injuries as his parents were rushing him to Webuye District Hospital.

"Cases of corporal punishment are quite rampant in his family but this time he killed his own son. He will be charged with murder," said Mr Odumbe.
