Police vehicle kills a bodaboda operator and flees the scene

Police engaged the public in a heated argument after a vehicle belonging to Ahero Police Station hit and killed a boda boda operator.

The vehicle was on its way to Nyamasaria when the accident happened. The motorcyclist had attempted to overtake a tuktuk.

The 9a.m. incident saw the police vehicle speed off to the nearest police station at Nyamasaria, as it was ferrying suspects to the station.

"There were some people who had been arrested and the officers feared that they would flee should they stop to pick the body," said Washington Oduor, a boda boda operator.

But this did not go down well with other operators and the public who complained about the police abandoning the body, and fleeing the scene.

For more than 20 minutes the public engaged the police in a cat and mouse game, paralysing traffic along the busy highway.

It forced the police to shoot in the air to disperse the crowd that was surging towards the station, baying for the blood of the driver.
