NAKURU, KENYA: Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has told the National Campaign against Drug Abuse (NACADA), Chairman John Muthutho to stop engaging in premature campaigns for the gubernatorial seat.

The Governor said it is too early for former Naivasha MP who recently declared interest in the seat to start campaigning.

He told his political opponents to hold their horses as the 2017 elections are still far and the campaign 'bell has not yet been rung'.

The Governor was speaking during a fundraiser for women groups in Bahati where he shared a platform with rival MPs Kimani Ngunjiri (Bahati) and David Gikaria (Nakuru East).

Mbugua lashed out at politicians in the county who have been undermining him saying they are afraid of 2017 elections.
"I know of politicians who have started campaigns so early because they are afraid of the next elections. But time for campaigns is still far. They should work first and ensure they fulfil what they promised people," said Mbugua.

Mututho recently stepped up his criticism of the governor whom he has accused of mismanaging county affairs leading to vice and general lawlessness.

"They know they have not delivered and are now campaigning to cover their failures. They do not believe in themselves and lack confidence to face the next elections," added Mr. Mbugua.

Mbugua accused politicians of shifting their focus to campaigns to cover up for their development failures.
Bahati's Ngunjiri and Gikaria have openly opposed Mbugua since late last year accusing him of high handedness and mismanagement.

But four MPs have come to Mbugua's defence and said he should be allowed to deliver on his mandate.
The MPs- Joseph Kiuna (Njoro), John Kihagi (Naivasha), Samuel Arama (Nakuru Town West) and Subukia's Nelson Gaichuhie- also want criticism against the governor to be moderated.
