Kenya Airports Authority conducts successful security drill

Nairobi, Kenya - The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) held a security and emergency drill at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) based on the scenario of a hijacked plane.

The drill was meant to measure the level of preparedness of the staff in handling such a situation.

They enacted hijacking of a KQ flight with 30 passengers set to leave for Malindi. In a statement to The Standard, KAA said the terrorists demanded food and refueling facilities and a flight plan to their destination of choice.

The General Service Unit (GSU) commandos neutralised the threat, with casualties being evacuated by the Kenya Red Cross Society to various city hospitals. The drill did not cause any undue panic, unlike in 2009 where the scenario was of a crashed plane that sparked panic all over the country.
