Children's court to get more judges

The Judiciary will deploy more judges to the children's court.

Chief Registrar Anne Amadi, who spoke during the launch of the Milimani Court's Children Users Committee, said there are challenges when it comes to children's representation in court.

She said since a committee has been formed to handle children's issues, her office will take up resolutions passed based on the challenges cited and oversee policy implementation.

"My office will take up resolutions passed from this committee and will see to it that extra judges are added to ease work in the children's court," she said.

Court of Appeal Judge Martha Koome, who was representing Chief Justice Willy Mutunga, said children's cases are as a result of the society's failure and called for the streamlining of funding for representation in such suits.

"If murder and robbery with violence suspects have a budget set aside for those to represent them, children too should be considered in this budget. Matters involving under 18s are important and I do not know why budgeting for legal aid for children is not being done yet it is necessary," Justice Koome said.
