Former AFC Leopards chairman Sambu turns heat on Kasavuli as AFC's financial woes persist

Former AFC Leopards chairman Alfred Sambu has turned the heat on current leader Allan Kasavuli to step down if he is overwhelmed by the task of guiding the club.

Sambu, now an MP for Webuye, spoke as reports emerged that Leopards are trapped in a financial quandary that has seen Ugandan player Karim Ndugwa thrown out of his house for non-payment of rent.

Sources within AFC Leopards confided in FeverPitch that fuelling the team bus is also proving a Herculean task, leave alone payment of players' salaries.

“You are a leader when you can show leadership,” Sambu said when he visited the team ahead of their match against SoNy on Friday.

In what amounted to a dressing down of the club leadership, Sambu said: “If you don’t show leadership you go.”

“You are a leader if you can produce results,” added Sambu, who is also a member of the AFC Leopards Rescue Team that comprises Dr Walter Onyino, Dr JJ Masiga and Pamela Lutta. Club Trustee and Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi graced the occasion, which Sambu used to assure Ingwe’s followers he was talking to a potential sponsor to get the felines out of their financial quagmire.

Earlier reports said all Ugandan players had skipped the event as a protest to non-payment of their salaries.

However, coach Zdravko Logarusic clarified that of the Ugandan legion, only Ndugwa had rental problems as Musa Mudde played against SoNy on Friday. Defender Martin Kiiza is injured.

Logarusic said Ndugwa’s case is unfortunate and that he hopes everything will be settled.

“He is a decent player. You can see he knows things football. However, he is not motivated. I did try to motivate him and he played well but after that it was difficult to lift his spirit,” Logarusic said.
