Gor Mahia continued with their winning ways as they disarmed Ulinzi Stars 2-0 in a Kenyan Premier League match played at City Stadium yesterday.

Goals by Meddie Kageira and Michael Olunga ensured that the KPL champions coasted to a comfortable win.

In Nakuru, league strugglers Nakuru All Stars continued to find the going tough in the top league as they succumbed to a 3-1 loss to former champions Tusker.

Captain Jesse Were and his striker partner Clifford Alwanga, plus an Amon Muchiri-won goal gave the brewers victory.

At the Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi City Stars and Sofapaka cancelled each other in a barren draw while at the Moi Stadium Kisumu, Fredrick Shimonyo’s penalty was enough to sink Bandari.

At Afraha, Tusker went ahead in the 28th minute when Were's fierce shot came off the upright and while Muchiri tried to clear the danger, he instead bundled the ball into his own net.

The brewers got their second goal through Alwanga in the 35th minute before Were scored from the spot in the 62nd minute after a foul by Franck Balla. All Stars got the consolation goal in the 65th minute courtesy of Boniface Akenga.

At the City Stadium, a physical and combative play characterised the first half of this match and a barren score would have been a perfect score line.

However, Ulinzi Stars defender Anthony Mureithi paid dearly for a back pass to James Saruni as the keeper could not take control of the ball allowing Michael Olunga to pounce before passing it to the unmarked Meddie Kageira who had the easiest of tasks in netting the opener on the stroke of half time.

Ulinzi Stars had started well and were rewarded with a fruitless corner when Oscar Wamalwa was denied by Godfrey Walusimbi.

Wamalwa fell badly from the effort and had to be taken out for treatment. The first chance by Gor Mahia fell to Olunga in the 13th minute when a long pass fell on his right foot, but he shot wide.

Gor Mahia goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch nearly cost his team in the 35th minute hesitating to take a goal kick and was lucky not to beaten by Wamalwa as he stretched quickly to stop the danger.

Ulinzi Stars made the first substitution early in the second half resting John Makwata for Evans Amuoka as they searched for that elusive equaliser.

Gor Mahia rested Ali Abondo for Ian Wafula and the latter set up Olunga to score the second goal of the match and with it ensured that the KPL champions stretched their lead at the top of the log.
