Kenyans rely on radios for exam news

NAIROBI: Unlike in the past when parents and candidates would gather around their Television sets to follow live coverage of the release of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education results, this year's announcement wasn't as widely publicised.

"Majority of parents here are in total black-out following the switch-off of the three popular private stations. We have been prompted to resort to listening to the radio to follow the release of results," said Charles Barchigei from Nandi County.
Mr Barchigei said most viewers in rural areas do not have set-top boxes.

"Unlike in the past when candidates and parents would celebrate as the results are announced, this time round, there are no activities," he said.

Abraham Lagat, a resident of Nandi North said he only heard the announcement in the radio that the results would be released.

He said they would only wait for the respective schools to relay the results to individual candidates.
In other public areas, residents used their mobile devices to tune into radio stations.
