More than 450,000 candidates who sat last year's Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations will receive their results Tuesday.

And for the first time, the Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) will also release results for other groups that sat exams administered by the council.

These include 46,412 students wrote Early Childhood Development Examinations across the country.

Also to be released are examination results for 27,679 students who wrote business examinations in various colleges across the country and another 26,165 who sat technical examinations.

Overall, some 550,266 candidates who sat various national examinations will know their grades Tuesday.

Knec Chief Executive Officer Joseph Kivilu said results for other exams were previously sent to various county directors and respective institutions asked to pick them up.

"We shall have all these results released at once Tuesday for the first time," he said.

The Standard established that the Government is keen to de-emphasise KCPE and KCSE examinations results release by also shifting focus to the other examinations offered by Knec.

Kivilu said Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi will release the results Tuesday at Knec offices.

"KCSE Candidates are encouraged to get their results by sending their index number to 22252," said Kivilu.

He said another code shall be developed and communicated Tuesday for the rest of candidates who sat ECDE, business and technical examinations.

Tuesday's release of results shall be the second after ranking of candidates and schools was discontinue by the Government.

The ban mirrors findings of the Kilemi Mwiria task force that recommended a review of schools and candidates ranking during release of national examinations.

The education task force said evaluation of schools performance should be used to inform Kenyans on institutions that attained the basic minimum academic pass mark.

"Schools could be ranked by how many of their students have surpassed the 50 per cent pass mark," reads the report by the task force.

The Mwiria task force proposes a radical shift in schools recognition and ranking during release of examination results.
