Jubilee moves to implement key projects in its election manifesto

The Jubilee Government will in 2015 be involved in the implementation if a number of key projects, most of which were part of its election manifesto.

The Government will, however, be forced to come up with strategies to deal with challenges that could derail the projects.

Among the projects the Government will be implementing is the standard gauge railways project, the free laptop project, and the Sh14.2 billion Galana Irrigation Scheme.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, in his state of the nation address to the National Assembly in March, defended the record of the Jubilee administration in implementing its development agenda and said that the Government would push on with its goal of acquiring funds for the projects.

Fine-tune initiatives

Chairman of the National Assembly Committee on Budget and Appropriations Mutava Musyimi also told The Standard yesterday that his committee had been involved in a number if forums to fine-tune various development initiatives by the Government.

"We have had forums discussing the Government's development proposals. I'm made to understand that there are others on the way.  I know that there are a lot of things happening along this line, although that is normally the responsibility of the Executive.

"As the chairman of budget committee, I wait to see the proposals from the Executive for the coming year in the implementation of various projects. There have been challenges, but the Government is on track," said Musyimi.

Turning point

The confidence expressed by Musyimi could be what the Government needs to convince Kenyans that 2015 will be a turning point in the fulfillment of its development pledges.

The standard gauge railway project was carried over from the Kibaki administration, and it is currently on its first steps of implementation.

A House watchdog committee has, however, halted the award of a Sh3.7 billion consultancy tender to a consortium led by Chinese firm, Third Railway Survey and Design Institute Group.

Despite the rising political temperature in the country, the Jubilee Government has insisted that it will not be distracted from its development agenda.

However, this will remain to be in 2015.
