State told to implement gender violence policies

The national and county governments have been told to adopt policies that will address cases of gender-based violence.

Maendeleo Ya Wanake Organisation National Chairman Rahab Mwikali said there is need for sound policies that will address the violence meted against women and other marginalised groups of the society.

"We need both levels of the government to address such cases of violence. We have started launching policies that deal with gender-based violence and they need to be fully implemented," she said.

Ms Mwaikali was speaking on Wednesday evening at the Teachers Advisory Centre (TAC) in Eldoret town during the end of the 16-day Activism and the marking of the International Human Rights Day.

She called for concerted efforts from the church, the political leadership and parents in eliminating gender-based violence.
