Body found under bridge in Mukuru identified as that of missing University student

Kenya: A body recovered under a bridge near Enterprise Road in Mukuru slums on November 28 has been identified as that of a university student who went missing as he left a club along Baricho Road three months ago.

DNA tests done at the Government Chemist show the body is that of Kevin Kahuthia, a fourth year electronics student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

“We called the parents and took their samples for tests. The body was badly decomposed when it was found,” Makadara Criminal Investigations Department boss Zack Nanguli said.

Kahuthia, who was an intern at a firm along Mombasa Road, went missing on October 17. Police suspect he was swept away by raging floods that were experienced on the night he went missing.

The family was informed of the results of the tests on Wednesday, and they demanded further investigations into the incident.

The family had been searching for Kahuthia in the city while asking for help from the public. They visited the club where he was, as details emerged that he was thrown out after an argument with the management.

A bouncer at the club was later found with Kahuthia’s mobile phone.

Police said they are still investigating the bouncer. The bouncer claimed Kahuthia was drunk and rowdy that night.

Meanwhile, police are looking for a gang that raided the home of former Nyaribari Chache MP Richard Monda and shot and wounded one of his workers before robbing the family of cash and other valuables at Kiraraponi in Karen on Wednesday night.

The victim was shot during a confrontation with the thugs. The other members of the family, including the former lawmaker were not wounded but were roughed up. Lang’ata OCPD Elijah Mwangi said they are following crucial leads.

The family declined to comment on the matter.

Elsewhere, a man was on Wednesday night shot and wounded in a robbery in a home in Kinoo, Nairobi.

Nothing was stolen from the victim following the attack. Police say the victim was ambushed as he drove into his compound and shot by a gang that had been waiting at the gate. The motive has not been established.

And a child was burnt to death in a fire incident in Riruta, Nairobi.

The child had been left alone when the fire broke out. Several families were left homeless following the incident.
