Strathmore extend winning ways to top Kenya Cup league

Strathmore RFC cemented their position at the top of the table with a convincing 49-0 win over Mean Machine at the Impala Grounds on Friday.

The students had to wait for 24 hours before they could determine if they would stay at the top before the next round of games, and when the other teams played on Saturday, they maintained their position.

Strathmore is now the only team to have picked up maximum points from all their three games. They picked a bonus against Mombasa, Kenyatta University's Blak Blad and University of Nairobi's Mean Machine. The only other two teams who are still unbeaten in the league are the defending champions Nakuru, who thrashed Mombasa 85-5 at the Nakuru Athletics Club and Kenya Commercial Bank who rout Blak Blad 60-10 at the Impala Grounds on Saturday.

Nakuru and KCB are second and third in the table standings after they were denied bonus points in the fixtures against Kabras RFC. On fourth position is Mwamba RFC who bounced back to winning ways with a remarkable 43-13 victory over Nondies at the Impala grounds. 

Mwamba are now tied in points with Impala RFC and Kenya Harlequin who have also won two games and lost one. Coincidentally, Impala's second victory of the league was over Kenya Harlequins at the RFUEA grounds where they outclassed the hosts 33-22.

Mwamba, Impala and Quins have all collected two bonus points from their victories, which is what separates them from Homeboyz, who registered a 25-17 victory over Western Bulls. Homeboyz are seventhe, just one point ahead of Western Bulls.

Meanwhile in Kakamega, Kabras RFC registered their first league victory after they hammered Catholic Monks 41-0 at the Kakamega Show Grounds.
