Man to hang for defiling, strangling six-year-old girl

The High Court has sentenced a man to death for defiling and murdering a minor.

High Court judge Nicholas Ombija yesterday sentenced Bernard Kamau to death for defiling and strangling six-year-old Florence Mukami whom he lured to a coffee plantation in Kiamari village in Kiambu five years ago.

According to witness statements, Kamau was a neighbour of the deceased, who went missing for over 14 hours, prompting search parties to comb the area. This led to the discovery of her half-naked, lifeless body.

In his judgement, Justice Ombija held the prosecution from the evidence cited in court and witness testimonies had proved beyond any reasonable doubt that Kamau had defiled and then murdered the minor.

"It is as clear as daylight that the accused was at the scene of the incident past 6pm on the fateful day. The soil samples from the scene and those on the suspect's trousers matched," said Ombija.
