Make Kenya proud, President Uhuru Kenyatta tells envoys

NAIROBI, KENYA: President Uhuru Kenyatta has asked Kenyan ambassadors to advance the Government's agenda and interests throughout their service.

Addressing newly appointed envoys when he hosted them for a luncheon at State House, Nairobi, President Kenyatta said patriotism is expected of them. The ambassadors – appointed last August – have finished training and are set to start their tour of duty in their respective foreign stations.

"Beyond embracing the symbols of our nationhood, live it. Bring your devotion to this great nation into life by practising categorical love for Kenya and Kenyans," Uhuru said.

The President said the ambassadors must put their country first in whatever they do and whomever they interact with, adding that they should not practice the diplomacy of subservience.

"Do not turn away investors by suggesting that corruption is a way of life. Comport yourselves in exemplary fashion. Do nothing suspicious. Our interests and properties abroad must be safe, including embassy assets," the President said.

Speaking on behalf of the newly appointed envoys, George Godia assured the President that they are well equipped to deliver according to the expectations of Kenyans. "This is a 'mixed grill' of talent," Amb Godia said of the team.
