The National Alliance: Alcohol will deny Mt Kenya the presidency

The National Alliance (TNA) party's Kiambu chairman Muigai Njoroge has said the rate at which youths in Mt Kenya region are drinking illicit brews will bar it from producing another President.

Mr Njoroge said most of the young people had turned into zombies and were not giving birth, leading to a reduction in population.

"If we are not careful with our young people, we may never capture the presidency again. Our population is decreasing by the day. This is a very worrying trend and stringent measures need to be taken to save our people," said Njoroge.

raiding dens

In the recent past, women in the area have been raiding illicit brew dens and destroying the liquor, claiming their men had been swallowed up there and could no longer produce children.

"You have seen it yourself. Women demonstrating, saying their husbands are impotent because of the brew," Njoroge said.

Schools in Murang'a and Kiambu counties have reported a reduction in the number of children being admitted to school, an indication that there is a decrease in births.

rob people

The TNA official told The Standard most of the shopping centres in Central Kenya were full of idle young men who did manual jobs or robbed people for money to drink and they no longer took care of their families.

The Executive for Youth Affairs, Machel Waikenda, also raised concerns over the drinking habits of the region's young men and called on the administration to crack down on all illicit brew dens in the county.

He urged the youth to form groups and apply for money from the Kiambu Biashara Fund as the county had set aside Sh300 million for youth, women and people living with disability to start up small businesses.
