MPs tell Mutua to quit over Kiala impasse

Two Ukambani MPs have criticised Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua for stripping his deputy, Bernard Kiala, of his duties.

Kathiani MP Robert Mbui termed Dr Mutua’s move as unconstitutional and unworkable.

Mr Mbui said if the governor was uncomfortable working with his deputy, both of them should quit and allow fresh elections.

“The governor should not have taken that path because this is denying Mr Kiala his constitutional right,” he said.

“If the governor is a gentleman, he should resign along with his deputy and allow Machakos people to go for a by-election.”

The MP said the governor should understand that Kiala is not his personal servant but an employee of the people of Machakos.

Yatta MP Francis Mwangangi described the sacking as a wrong option.

“What Mutua did actually ended up intensifying the differences between the two and their supporters,” he said.

Mutua on Monday stripped Kiala of additional executive duties he had assigned him.
