Officials face probe over Sh27m tender

Turkana, Kenya: Turkana County Executive is on the spot over procurement irregularities and mismanagement of funds.

Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) have raised a red flag and the assembly has started probing irregularly awarded Sh27 million transport tender.

Two county Executive members are among those being interrogated over awarding the road tender to a contractor without approval from the county assembly.

The committee has summoned the county executives for Finance and Transport together with the procurement officer to shade more light on the circumstances under which the contractor won the tender.

The officials are accused of flouting the public procurement law.

However, the committee is split over the adoption of the report to pave way for indicting  the two county executives for flouting the tendering procedures.

Committee chairman James Abei, who spoke to The Standard, explained that though they have experienced delays in tabling the report in the assembly, it has nothing to do with trying to shield those mentioned.
