It is the last day of Sept, so naturally, y’all should find yourselves singing ‘summer has come n passed, the innocent can never last, wake me up, when September ends ...’ Now if you don’t even know that Green Day classic, tis up to the Smitta to amsha n chanua you, before ‘RockTober’ gets ya. Four soft all time rock songs to lube ye for rock (unless yur a rhumba loving musical rex like Mike Owuor)

18 Till I Die

‘Can’t live 4ever, thaz wishful thinkin’ ‘, whoever said that, musta been drinkin.’

Don’t wanna grow up, I don’t see why; someday I’ll be 18, going on 55.

This Bryan Adams’ song sums up what it means to be a forever young rocker, like the SS.

Zombie’

‘In Your head, they’re fightin’ with their tanks, n theya bombs, n their guns, in your head x2’

That one line by Dolores O’Reardon of the Cranberries captured all the devils of the world, from Aleppo to Apocalypse ... n explains the demons in rockers’ heads.

‘It’s My Life’

Every rocker moshing once ate this song as their musical Cerelac. Like a bloody evangelical revival. ‘I ain’t gonna be just a face in the crowd, yur gonna hear my voice when I shout it out loud. IT’S MY LIFE!’ Those rocker boyz of Jon Bon Jovi.

‘Photograph’

Nickleback was my shallow go to shallow in rock.

‘And this is where I went to school, most of the time I had better things to do. I wonder if it’s too late, should I go back and try to graduate?’

Now here are the four legendary rock groups for beginners to check out on YouTube

Aerosmith – you need to check craaayyy Steve Tyler n his crew out. ‘Get A Grip!’

Red Hot Chilli Peppers – the best video to look at is the insane ‘By The Way.’

Three Doors Down – you’ll never be able to forget the zany mzee in ‘Kryptonite.’

System Of A Down – ‘Toxicity.’ Whose lead singer, Serj Tankian, is my rock hero (n I hate to say this, but he does resemble my ed Peter Ndoch, this great rock tsar).

Four Songs You Ought to know off head, or by heart.

(i) The Pixie’s ‘Where is my Mind?’

‘Try this trick and spin it, yeah! Your head will collapse coz there’s nuthin in it ...’

This sweet n strange song was also the end time theme song in the cult film hit, ‘The Fight Club.’ If you ain’t seen it, do!

(ii) Pink’s ‘Sober’ (or Part-y’s Over).

If yur a kalewa, n wanna change, your anthem n colour should be Pink.

‘I don’t want to be that gal you call at 4 in the morning, coz I’m the only one you know in the world who’ll not be home. Ah, the sun is blinding. Ahh, I stayed up late again! N thaz not the way I want my story to end.’ If yu don’t like rock, well, there is always that ‘Dirunki’ wimbo by Gabu n Kristoff.

(iii) ‘Creep’ by Radiohead – This classic celebrates 25 years as a classic cult rock hit today.

Lyrics roll like ‘When you were here before, couldn’t look you in the eye ...

Yur just like an angel, yur skin makes me cry ...’ This is a warmly soocidal song that is also coldly cynical, n well in with the brutal and pitiable vogue of the early 90s grunge n angst, that is back in rock.

(iv) Green Day with ‘WHATSERNAME?’ The BEST break up song, ever, coz rockers ain’t emo whiners.

“Seems that she disappeared without a trace, did she ever marry (that surly man) Old ‘What’s His Face?’

She went away and then I took a far better path, now I wonder how WhatsHerName has been ...”

(Except, if yur a real rocker, yu coont give two sh*ts whether an ‘ex’ won the jackpot or got the cancer, he he). Coz mushy n mellow tuliwachia wakina Sam and Adele, eh.
