Kenya’s squad to the Rio Olympic Games will receive their training and competition kits on Monday. Stephen Arap Soi, the Chef de Mission, said the kit had been cleared and will be received this weekend.
“We have since cleared it and the kits will be distributed this weekend. Athletes will have their competition and training kits by Monday,” Soi said.
He was speaking on Thursday, in Eldoret where the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (Nock) are hosting a sports medicine symposium for coaches, athletes and medical staff on issues that concern athletes’ health before, during and after the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The move comes barely few days after Team Kenya captain Wesley Korir asked Sports Cabinet Hassan Wario to confirm arrival of training and competition kits for the athletes at the camp.
Soi said Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri) will take blood samples from the team members for testing prior to departure for the Games and upon arrival.
“Zika virus will be an issue. We have made provision that we want to ensure that nothing terrible will happen in the event that an individual would be exposed to Zika virus,” Soi said.
The symposium also tackled a raft of issues included the never ending topic of doping.
