Inaugural Benga Live at Kenya National Theatre this Sunday

The Kenya Cultural Centre will be hosting a new entertainment concept in town dubbed Benga Live at the main National Theatre beginning this Sunday.

Benga giant Mzee Francis Kavuu Danger of the famed Kilimambogo Brothers will be the first artiste to grace the occasion that seeks to retain the authentic Kenyan Benga devoid of Congolese influence.

The legacy of Benga Maestro Dr Collela Mazee will be alive when Maurice Jarabare of Super Victoria Band takes the stage in an afternoon that promises many a walk down memory lane.

According to the organizers Kenya Cultural Centre in collaboration with Wibo Culture and JoJo Records, the concept seeks to produce, promote and preserve the Benga style of music by supporting young artists to record and showcase their talent.

Through master classes, this initiative seeks to bridge the gap between the old and new school artists while advancing innovation from traditional to contemporary fusions.

They hope that this initiative will promote Benga music as a Kenyan cultural identity among fans as well as attracting new audiences in the dance culture space and to preserve the culture, the initiative will continuously document and disseminate the culture, in collaboration with outreach stations in the counties.

“In order  to keep the Benga culture alive and return to becoming the Kenyan sound of dance music, the three came up with the idea of having a Benga Live Concert every last Sunday of the month at Kenya National Theatre,” said the tripartite in a joint statement.

The concert begins at 3pm Sunday.
