Harun Githongo and Geoffrey Mulusa may be worlds apart, but they share one thing in common; they are easily mistaken for two former politicians.
Whenever they go, they attract curious onlookers and sometimes enjoy ‘presidential’ waves and salutes. The two now want to meet and get to know each other better.
Speaking to The Nairobian, Harun Githongo revealed that on different occasions, he has been confused for former President Kibaki.
Sometimes people claim he is either Kibaki’s brother or a close relative.
“I once attended the University of Nairobi graduation and the number of people who stopped to shake my hand was overwhelming. Every one thought I was Kibaki and wondered why I did not have any presidential escort,” he said.
“I have become used to all the attention. I am not related to Kibaki. I come from Murang’a, whereas Kibaki hails from Othaya. I once met a county commissioner from Naivasha who was shocked that I was roaming the streets without any security detail or even a chauffeur,” he said.
Geoffrey Mulusa, who resembles former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka told The Nairobian he enjoys special treatment from people who confuse him for Kalonzo.
Mulusa says he is used to salutes, especially when he visits public offices and sometimes people queue to shake his hand.
“One time I toured Mararal and when I alighted, excited villagers were singing and fighting to shake my hand. I was stunned and had to cut short my business trip,” he said.
Mulusa, who is a pastor in Syokimau, said he is enthusiastic to meet his ‘boss’ lookalike, Githongo.
