Chief registrar wants case dismissed

Judiciary Chief Registrar Anne Amadi wants a case filed by 11 employees in the Industrial Court struck out, saying they have no case against her.

Ms Amadi, replying to the case in which the 11 opposed her decision to issue them with termination letters in May this year, defended her actions, saying the decision was made by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and that she is just a secretary who implements decisions made by the commission.

In documents before the court, Amadi said she only acted on powers given to her by the commission, refuting claims that she was acting on her own behalf.

"The claimants' amended notice of motion is misconceived and does not disclose any reasonable cause of action in law," she said in her defence.

In the same case, Registrar of the High Court Judith Omange said the 11 were not employees of the Judiciary as they alleged in the suit before Justice David Marete.

Ms Omange said they had been offered internship in the High Court but were transferred to the Industrial Court to help with work as there were not enough employees.

She said as a temporary measure, the 11 were deployed to the Industrial Court archives.
