Zetech College are the new Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Ruiru-Sub County football champions.
Zetech edged The Spinners 5-4 in post-match penalties to clinch the inaugural Ruiru FKF tournament after a barren draw in regulation time during the tournament that attracted 16 teams at the weekend.
The FKF organised tournament was aimed at giving exposure to budding footballers besides stimulating football growth at the grassroots.
Speaking after the match, Zetech captain Paul Omondi said: “Today, we have won out of hard work and determination, we knew Spinners are a good team, so our main focus was to ensure we do not concede. This win will definitely keep us in high morale as we look forward to the resumption of the Universities League next weekend.”
Zetech coach Maurice Onyango told FeverPitch: “As a team, we continue to learn from each game, today we played a very tactical game and we are happy to be crowned champions.”
Meanwhile Palos FC from Kisumu County beat visiting Comply FC from Nakuru 3-1 in a FKF Division One encounter at the Kisumu’s Carwash play ground.
At the Same Venue, Field Negros, formerly Kisumu Youth Olympic Centre silenced Nyakach FC 2-0 in an entertaining encounter watched by former Gor Mahia forward Hamisi Shamba among others.
Saidi Tsuma scored a double for Palos before Victor Okong’o ‘Dudi’ netted the third goal for the Makini-sponsored Palos FC.
Stephen Mungai scored Comply’s consolation goal.
In the match between Field Negros and Nyakach FC Owen Otieno scored Negros’ first goal in the eighth minute before Notkely Masai added the second in the 82nd minute.
Elsewhere, Magadi Primary School beat St. Joseph Mumias at Mumias Complex at the weekend.
Magadi scored through Pilington Ochieng’ in the 16th and 78th minutes. In another friendly match Magadi and Muslim FC from settled for a 1-1 draw.
