University ordered to readmit student suspended over strike

Nyeri, Kenya: The High Court Tuesday ordered a Nyeri-based public university to re-admit a student it had suspended for two years for allegedly leading a strike.

Brian Manana Wanjala, a third year student, got a temporary reprieve after Justice James Wakiaga directed Kimathi University College to readmit him until the case is heard and determined.

The university was consequently prohibited from denying the applicant access to classes, laboratories, academic facilities and any sport activities he may deem fit to participate in.

“Am concerned that if the suspension is not reversed, I will suffer irreparable loss and harm which will affect my career,” said Wanjala through Lumumba and Lumumba Advocates.

Justice Wakiaga certified the matter as urgent and directed the student to file his application within 21 days.
