Brisk business for inaugural Jambojet as governors ask for extra flights

By MARGARET KANINI

Kenya: Kenya Airways’ (KQ)low cost airline Jambojet’s inaugural flight takes off to Mombasa from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) starting 9.30am today on a high note.

This is after the Council of Governors requested for extra flights to Mombasa. In a letter to Kenya Airways Chief Executive Titus Naikuni, the Council said availing more flights on Mombasa route will aid the travelling of more Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to the Coast for a meeting with Governors.

The conference dubbed ‘One Year into Devolution: Celebrating the Milestones, Confronting Challenges,” at Leisure Resort Lodge, Kwale, targets 3,000 MCAs and participants. It starts on April 3.

Heavy traffic

The Council, in the letter, explained that they anticipate heavy traffic to Mombasa and asked KQ to set up a help desk at JKIA’s Terminal Three and designate counter for checking delegates. This will assist delegates with their travel arrangements as well as at Moi International Airport in Mombasa.

Meanwhile, a statement from the airline said that during the maiden flight, there will be a brief ceremony before the flight at JKIA presided over by Cabinet Secretary for Transport and Infrastructure Michael Kamau starting 8.30am.

Governor Ali Hassan Joho will welcome the inaugural flight at the Moi International Airport, Mombasa, before a return flight to Nairobi expected to touch down at JKIA at 12.40pm.
