NAIROBI, KENYA: A Ghanaian has been arrested and cocaine valued at Sh2.1 million recovered from him in Nairobi.

The man was headed for Accra, Ghana after originating from Sao Paolo, Brazil, officials said.

He was arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport while trying to connect to Ghana on Tuesday and has since emitted 33 pellets containing a white powder of cocaine.

Airport CID boss Joseph Ngisa said they suspect  the man is part of a larger gang that is behind drug trafficking incidents and he will appear in court as soon as he finishes emitting more pellets.

“He is under observation and we hope he will emit more of the drugs,” said Ngisa.

Ngisa added they have intensified police alertness at the airport to curb increasing incidents of trafficking of hard drugs.

“JKIA remains the main transit point for these drug traffickers but we are making efforts to contain the incidents,” said Ngisa.

Early this month another Ghanain national was arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport over drug trafficking charges of cocaine valued at more than Sh4 million.

The man aged 34 was enroute to Benin from Sao Paulo when he was detained by officials from the Anti-Narcotics Unit.

He was put in an observation room and has since then emitted at least 48 pellets he had inserted into his rectum.
