Bus, train accident claims ten lives in Umoja area, Nairobi

Accident scene where train collided with a bus killing at-least six people in Nairobi's Umoja area.

NAIROBI, KENYA: Ten people have been confirmed dead following an accident involving a train and a matatu in Umoja, Nairobi.

Railway commandant Kirimi Ringera has confirmed.

The matatu was crossing a railway line as the train approached when the accident happened. Three people died on the spot. There was confusion early in the morning when the Kenya police placed figure of the dead at three while Kenya Red Cross in its latest tweet putting the figure at eight after two casualties succumbed to injuries. "Death toll rises to 8 after two casualties succumbed to their injuries," reports RedCross adding that the injured have been rushed to nearby Mama Lucy hospital.

According to eye witness, the minibus was dragged almost 500 meters from the accident scene.
