Kenya safe after attack, President Uhuru Kenyatta says

President Uhuru Kenyatta has assured Kenyans and foreign nationals that the country is safe after the Westgate terror attack.

Uhuru said the Government had put in place enough measures to curb incidences of insecurity and asked the international community not to issue travel advisory to their citizens.

“I want to assure you the country is very safe and there is no need to worry. We have put measures in place to deal with any security threat,” said Uhuru.

Speaking during the 2013 Nairobi International Trade Fair, at Jamhuri Park Showground Wednesday, the President maintained the security personnel are on high alert and will firmly deal with terrorists or those planning to cause mayhem.

The Head of State said the Government would continue to offer security to its citizens as well as ensure investors and foreigners visiting the country are safe.

President Uhuru singled out food security, employment creation and economic growth as key priorities of his administration adding that the enactment of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Authority Act, 2013 (AFFA) provides the legislative foundation within, which to transform the economic development.

He said Government has profiled and rationalised the potential in all parts of the country to ensure no region lagged behind in development.

Flanked by a host of Cabinet Secretaries, Uhuru said the Jubilee administration, intends to scale up agribusiness activity and increase its diversity to transform Kenya into a continental breadbasket.

He said the Government had made specific commitments regarding agriculture, ICT and industry geared towards national transformation.

“These commitments have to be anchored in a sound policy and legislative framework to accelerate industrialisation and economic transformation,” he said.

At the same time Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero said his County government had developed a seven-pillar vision that spells out priorities activities in the next five years.

The Governor encouraged youth to take up commercial farming saying youth enterprises were key to the country’s development.

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Felix Koskei on his part assured farmers the Government had subsidised the cost of fertiliser.
