Cute air hostess linked to car theft melts away

Her story reads like the plot of a fictional movie, starring a breathtaking femme fatale. But city police are in no mood for make-believe as they pursue a 30-year-old fugitive air hostess linked to a carjacking syndicate in Kileleshwa and surrounding areas.

The hostess, described by her co-workers as ‘very light and beautiful’, is thought to have been part of a gang that included her supposed husband, which had been robbing motorists.

It is believed that she would pose as either a distressed young lady seeking help from motorists before the rest of her crew pounced to execute the theft, or a harmless rich woman looking for a vehicle on a short lease from car hire companies.

But it is how she escaped a raid by the police in their office that revealed how dangerous a criminal she may have been. Three detectives in plain clothes arrived in their office looking for her, our source explains, but she was able to slide away, gliding down a pillar from the first floor before escaping without a trace.

The woman is also linked to the disappearance of five vehicles belonging to a city car hire firm. Sources said she rents a car before selling it and then goes underground before she re-surfaces again to target a different car firm. The woman is now on the run, alongside the man believed to be her husband and accomplice. “There are many cases brought against her. I can only remember five, but what I know she is being sought,” said an officer privy to the investigations.

Head of flying squad Nyale Munga confirmed that the woman was once questioned. The circumstances under which she was released were, however, unclear.

A colleague says there have long been suspicions that she was living beyond her means.

“I once visited her apartment and was shocked by her lavish lifestyle, yet our salaries are less than Sh100,000” said one of her colleagues.
