Ruto: Elect leaders who will fight hunger

ELDORET, KENYA: Eldoret North MP William Ruto called on Kenyans to elect a government that would eliminate hunger and ensure all children had a right to education.

The Jubilee Coalition running mate spoke in Eldoret yesterday while donating food and clothes to orphans, women, and children at the Eldoret Children’s Rescue Centre.

“It is you the people who have the power through your vote to elect a government that will eliminate hunger. We want a Kenya that has enough food. Together we can eliminate hunger so that every household has enough food,” said Ruto, who was accompanied by Councillor Peter Chomba, Eldoret Mayor William Rono and aspirants for various seats.

He said the Jubilee alliance leadership would ensure all Kenyans grow enough food for all. He further asked residents to maintain peace during this election season.  Accompanied by Eldoret Diocese Bishop Cornelius Korir, Ruto promised to put up a primary school for the orphans through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Protecting Children

“These children deserve to live just like the rest of Kenyans. Through CDF, we shall set aside Sh1 million to help this orphanage construct a school and a polytechnic. But we shall put up a fully fledged primary school,” Ruto added. Bishop Korir thanked the MP for the gesture and said his committee shall convene to decide between constructing a polytechnic and a school.

“Kenyans from all walks of life should take care of street children. Donations of foodstuffs once in a year are not enough but if we, including business people from this place pooled resources together, we can provide education, which is more important,” Korir said.

Addressing a crowd that gathered at Mwenderi where he donated clothes and food, Ruto said all tribes can and should exist in harmony despite different political opinions. “This place (Huruma) experienced violence during the last polls. We should exercise caution,” he said.
