Likoni Ferry workers go on strike

By Patrick Beja

Likoni ferry workers have put down their tools paralyzing transport in the coastal town following stalled negotiations on a collective bargaining agreement.

Thousands of passengers are stranded in the ingoing strike that began early Friday morning.

Sources say that the industrial reaction is a result of non-payment of dues to Kenya Ferry.

This strike comes after Kenya Ferry workers threaten to shut down all services if their salaries are not reviewed upwards, early October.

The Likoni Ferry strike is the second to hit the coastal town of Mombasa this week as workers at the port of Mombasa on Thursday threaten to shut down all services if their salaries were not reviewed upwards.

Hundreds of tonnes of cargo piled up at the port as the workers downed their tools.
