Kenya and Poland explore tourism ties

Poland and Kenya are ready to work closely towards promoting tourism between the two nations, according to the Polish ambassador to Kenya Marek Zioikowski and the Tourism Secretary Dr Nelson Githinji.

The envoy said Kenya exhibited itself as a land of opportunities at the recently concluded exhibitions at the KICC, adding that the Country was ripe for serious investments. He said his country was looking into areas of cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the tourism sector.

Kenya, said the envoy, has got good climate and diverse tourist products which other countries lack that makes Poland develop interest in wanting to invest in Kenya.

He cited Sports tourism, as one of the areas that Poland could tap into to boost the two countries’ tourism potential.

Dr Githinji said already, the number of investors wanting to invest in Kenya had increased courtesy of the just concluded Magical Kenya Expo   which exhibited Kenya as a land of immense of opportunities. He assured the Polish government that Kenya was the best country in the region to invest in Tourism and other sectors.

Dr Githinji noted that besides Wildlife and Safari that Kenya is largely known for, the country has gone diversification with cultural, Sports Tourism and Medical Tourism being Key.

Githinji noted that Sports Tourism in Kenya was an unexploited gem and encouraged the Polish government to encourage partnership where Polish runners can come and train with Kenyan runners as a way of boosting and strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Commending on the existing level of cooperation, the Tourism Secretary said that Poland could exploit other new areas of cooperation such as cultural, conferencing tourism where the two countries can work together to broaden the spectra of mutual cooperation.

 Dr Githinji said Kenya was keen on stepping up economic cooperation with Poland, which is currently the 6th largest economy in Europe

Flanked by a Senior Assistant Director of Tourism Anne Musau, Dr Githinji said Kenya’s tourists arrivals was on the increase especially from the country’ main markets of UK, US. Germany and Italy and that a venture into new markets had also shown positive results.

He said the Ministry’s Marketing organ - Kenya Tourist Board had also intensified efforts to market the country’s various and diverse tourism products to its people to encourage domestic Tourism.
