Three die after consuming illicit brew

Three people died after consuming illicit brew in Nairobi’s Kibera slums.

The three include a couple and a woman. The bodies were discovered in their houses on Saturday morning after they had consumed a drink that had been delivered to them, locals said.

But police say they have not found any other case reported to them regarding the consumption of the alleged brew.

Kilimani deputy police boss Johana Chebii said they will conduct tests to establish if the brew caused the deaths.

“Residents say the three had consumed illicit brew that led to their death but we are yet to confirm if indeed the drink was behind it,” said Chebii.

Residents claimed the brew was supplied there by a man who works at the local chief’s office.

Locals of the Silanga area where the incident happened say the three had consumed the brew on Friday.   

The couple also brews and sell brew to locals.
