Panic gripped a primary school in Daiga division in Laikipia East district, after a head teacher was murdered on Wednesday night.
Josephat Maina, 45, the head teacher at Ngare Ndare primary school was killed near his home in Mwichuiri village.
Maina, who is also the district’s Kenya Primary School Head Teachers Association Vice Chairman, was heading home from a bar he owns at Mathagiro trading centre, when he was reportedly accosted by two people.
The assailants, who were riding on a motorcycle, attacked the teacher with pangas during the 10pm incident.
Area Chief Mr Wang’ombe Wanjau said the duo inflicted the deceased more than ten panga cuts on the head.
“He was heading home at around 10Pm from his pub at Mathagiro trading centre when two people riding on a motor cycle attacked him with pangas,” said the chief.
The administrator added that the motive behind the murder has not been established.
The deceased is a former branch executive committee member of the Kenya National Union of Teachers ( Knut) in Laikipia.
“We suspect that the murder could be instigated by a grudge but we are investigating,” Wanjau said.
Maina died on the way to Nanyuki District Hospital where he was rushed by members of Timau community policing team.
Laikipia County Knut Executive Secretary Jackson Thangei and Chairman Jackson Mugo condemned the killing and demanded thorough and speedy probe into the murder.
