Suspected Islamist militants kill 44 in central Nigeria city Jos

Jos, Nigeria: Suspected Islamist militants killed 44 people in attacks on a restaurant and on a mosque in the central Nigerian city of Jos, emergency service authorities said on Monday.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility but Sunday night's attacks bore the hallmarks of Boko Haram insurgents, fighting since 2009 to carve out a radical Islamic state in the northeast of Africa's biggest economy and oil producer.
