Senator injured as protests at University of Eldoret turn chaotic

Eldoret, Kenya: Learning has been paralysed at the University of Eldoret following protests over alleged corruption in the institution.

Uasin Gishu Senator Isaac Melly, who was among the demonstrators, was injured after the protests turned chaotic.

The senator is currently receiving treatment at Elgon View Hospital.

His security aide was allegedly roughed up by police after he attempted to rescue the senator.

Earlier, police allegedly lobbied tear gas canisters at a vehicle ferrying some MCAs, who had joined the protestors.

Locals and students are currently engaging anti-riot police in running battles.
