Deloitte Post - Budget Analysis

Analysts from consultancy firm Deloitte have faulted Finance Minister Uhuru Kenyatta’s budget for the year 2010 / 2011, singling out failure to lower tax rates and widen existing tax brackets. Deloitte tax partner Nikhil Hira says despite an earlier move by the  Kenya national bureau of statistics to re- classify income brackets for the low, middle and upper class, treasury chose to leave tax bands unchanged and this was likely to undermined the level of savings and consumption within the economy. Deloitte also said emerging political risks posed a threat to successful implementation of the budgetary proposals.
