Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has vowed to end cartels in the county government.

While reassuring residents of improved service, Mr Natembeya promised to seal loopholes through which public coffers are drained by corrupt county government officials.

Speaking during an inspection tour of Kitale Referral Hospital, the county chief put on notice officials linked to corruption, saying they have no room in his government.

"It is shameful and inhumane for staff to steal drugs and sell them to the public. I would not allow such employees to serve in the government," said Natembeya.

He directed the Medical superintendent Francis Soita to ensure services are streamlined and residents seeking treatment get effective services.

He warned health workers against mistreating patients.

"I don't want to hear complaints from the residents about service delivery. Every staff has a responsibility to discharge their duty without failure because this is the reason they were hired and are paid salary," he said.

The governor announced a waiver for several patients with huge medical bills.

"I know many Kenyans are facing hard economic times and unable to foot the medical bills. Patients unable to clear bills should be let to go home," said Natembeya.

He pledged to promote health services, arguing it is key to development.

"Health is a critical aspect of development and our people must access affordable medical services," he said.

The county chief promised to put in place a system that will ensure accountable dispensation of drugs in all health facilities.

"To avoid shortages, my administration will set up a system that will monitor procurement and dispensation of drugs," he said.

Natembeya said his administration has begun developing the County Integrated Development Plan, to help steer development and realise desirable gains.

"We kicked off the process of formulating the County Integrated Development Plan to provide a roadmap towards accelerating development," he noted.

He said his administration is keen on agriculture, education and health sectors to spur development.
