Two people were killed by lightning in Kakamega County. Rosemary Muramba, 62, and Sharon Misenya, 14, were separately struck by lightning as it rained heavily.

More than 2,000 others in different parts of the county were displaced after three rivers burst their banks.

Affected families in Mumias West, Matungu, Lugari, Navakholo and Khwisero sub-counties sought refuge in churches, schools and market centres.

Mumias West Deputy County Commissioner Charles Mbulishe urged residents to move to higher ground.

“We have already cautioned our people living close to River Nzoia along Shibale and adjacent areas to move to raised areas," he said.
