A Masinde Muliro University lecturer is living in fear following threats to his life over changes he made to the education sector.

Stephen Odebero, who also chairs the Busia County Education Board and Matili Technical Training Institute Board of Governors, said his recent decisions on the region's education could be the root cause of his woes.

"The closure of some schools in Busia by the Education board, which I chair, and the appointment of a deputy principal to act as principal of Matili Institute against wishes of the community, could be reason behind these threats. Yet, I was doing that as a mandated officer," said Prof Odebero in his statement at Kakamega Central Police Station.

He added that for the last week, he had been receiving strange calls from unknown people.

"On Thursday, I walked home to found witchcraft paraphernalia; a live hen with no feathers, the head of a cat, what looked like a cat's feet in a black paper bag, male and female undergarments and a red rope used to tag a hearse," said Odebero.
