Kenya Volleyball legend Barnabas Bargoria is dead

Kenya Volleyball legend Barnabas Bargoria is dead.

The Standard Sport confirmed on Wednesday Bargoria passed away over the weekend after a long illness.

“Kenya volleyball fraternity has been thrown into a state of mourning by the passing on of one of its veteran icons, Barnabas Bargoria.

“The Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) President Waithaka Kioni, Executive Committee and entire fraternity is condoling with the family.

“He was also an Eldoret Businessman. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” the KVF deputy president Charles Nyaberi said in a statement.

The legend,  a former National Irrigation Board CEO started as a Volleyball coach and teacher at Nakuru High School where he groomed, among others, Joseph Maina Chelogoi "Sacramanga".

The late Bargoria served as KVF chairman and Confederation of African Volleyball ((CAVB) vice president between 1989 and 1992.

He will best be remembered for bringing the African Club Championships for Men and Women to Kenya for the 1st time in 1990.

During his youth, he played for TAI and FLAMINGO Volleyball Clubs in Nakuru.

In his tenure, he managed to popularise the game with highly placed Government personalities.

The Standard Group PLC family mourns the loss of the legend.
