Banjukaring Pulse's way

By David Odongo

The confidence of Nairobi’s new elite was on display at Pulse seventh anniversary party held at Galileo Lounge last weekend. With paps Pius, Facebook king Kenny Kaburu, and I we were driven into Galileo’s at eight in the evening. Getting off the car, the crisp evening air hit my face as excitement set in for a night that I rightly reckoned would be full of fun.

Although the club was almost full, I saw CEO, huddled in a corner, drinking…tea. Recovering from my shock, he invites us and explains that he no longer drinks his Famous Grouse, and so tea it is. As we settle into the lounge, soft drinks, as well as beer land on our table. I settle for a Fanta as team member Shirley walks in with friends in stunning outfits. Inevitably heads turn.

Later another team member Matilda checks in with her boyfriend in tow. Dressed in a tight lovely black and white dress, Tilda looks ravishing. "She looks as good as she writes" Pius whispers into my ear. From 10pm, it was all a blur as endless celebrities streamed in.

A super hyper Bon-Eye walks in with Frasha. Next comes Nonini followed by Jaguar and his boys. Smitta’s absence was loudly felt as nobody could trace where the wordsmith. Confidential but reliable sources intimated that he had been last spotted two days ago in the wee hours of the morning. Before the clock hit midnight, Stevens Muendo arrived, fresh from Mombasa, having been crowned the showbiz columnist of 2010 during the Coast Awards.

Collo, the self proclaimed ‘King of Rap’ also came in, hand in hand with his girlfriend and he proclaimed to all who cared to listen his undying affection for his woman. "I can do anything for her. I love this woman," he told an amused Lexxy, formerly of Xyzee. Drinking, Lexxy’s pals from the US put our doubts to rest and confirmed to us that the Pretender singer indeed drives a Mercedes back in the US.

With the club in a supper party mood, Jimmy Gait was coerced to an impromptu performance, as was Kenzo and Collo. Budhaa Blaze and his friends checked in hobnobbed before leaving.

Thereafter, Bamboo’s brother, Hip-hop star, Kimya fresh from Germany checked in, lucky to have escaped the terrible weather in Europe. Radio presenter, Solo was the life of the party and who knew that paparazzo Pius the Pious is considered a celebrity in some circles? Throngs of adoring women lined up to have chitchat with him.

When you are having fun time seems to fly— and it did at the bash.

Clearly, Pulse’s the only way to get a life…
