We are the change that we seek.

The season of political madness is just but around the corner. The potential voter is now the darling to a politician who vanished after being elected and rarely made a trip back to his constituency.

The few time the politician was seen back home is when the top guy from the hill was launching “some projects” to the mweshimiwa constituency.

Other than this rare appearances, mweshimiwa was just but news item only seen on prime time news in Nairobi defending with zealous his party or the Government.

Not once did mweshimiwa advocated for his constituents or drafted policies to address problems he promised to tackle once elected.

To this mweshimiwa, what mattered most was a big hefty paycheck, high-end cars, living a cosy life in a leafy suburb, showing off ill-gotten wealth on the social media, hanging out and clubbing hard with cute young bimbos in exclusive clubs and parlours or flying them to Dubai for fun.

With a few months to the election, the potential, gullible and vulnerable voter now matters. mweshimiwa who disappeared after being elected is now back home with a bang.

Traversing the constituency in helicopters and powerful guzzlers on weekend is the norm of the day.
On Sunday, mweshimiwa moves from church to church taking the front pew just to be seen. Being a “celebrity” of some sort, he is recognized by the pastor who asks him to come in front and greet the people.

He is cheered wildly has he lies about his “development records” making the same promise he made five years ago. He boasts about his closeness to the power to be and asks his gullible constituents to vote for him again.

Before he leaves for another church service, he asks the pastor and the congregation to pray for him claiming that there are enemies out there to eliminate him!!

In his usual characteristics and cunning manner, he donates some good money and promise to bring big shots from Nairobi for a fund raising.

The impressed and broad smiling pastor with his congregation cheer wildly, as mweshimiwa kneels to be blessed. The same script is repeated everywhere mweshimiwa goes on this particular Sunday and every other Sunday before the election.

With the chicken coming home to roost, expect your mweshimiwa every other weekend. It is going to be a whirlwind of promises made but once elected voila!! Mweshimiwa will retreat back to his five-star life in Nairobi because of your vote.

You will seldom hear from him save from when the top guy visits to issue title deeds or initiate “projects” that your mweshimiwa will lay claim on.

The other time you are likely to see your mweshimiwa is when he is called by Larry Madowo on television to give an opinion on a mega corruption on individuals close to mweshimiwa.

Mweshimiwa is aware that you the ordinary voter is vulnerable, gullible, poor, and innocent. He has capitalised on your lack of critical thinking to question and judge his poor development and policy record.

He knows that you are too poor and will accept the little money he will bribe you to buy his way back to the August House.
By now you should be aware that the potbellied mweshimiwa courtesy of your vote has little time for you.

It is time to reflect deeply on the last five years and make your decision on whom to vote for next based on the content of their character and not how much one owns because what they claim to own stolen from you the voter.

Be smart this time round because you the voter have the power to make the change that will empower you economically, politically and socially. To quote Barack Obama, change will not come if we wait for some other person or other time. We are the change that we seek.
