Kakamega woman stabs husband to death over ugali

A woman from Ikoli Village in Malava Constituency, Kakamega County shocked residents after she stabbed her husband to death during a fight over ugali.

25-year-old Joy Indeche is said to have stabbed her husband Brian Indumuli, 35, on the stomach multiple times before turning the kitchen knife on herself.

According to Brian’s father, John Indumuli, the fight started after her daughter-in-law served her husband with ugali which accidentally tipped over and fell on the ground.

Indimuli further says that his son got upset since the wife served him while she was drunk.

“A fight broke out after my son asked her why she appeared drunk. She fled from the house and came back armed with the knife and stabbed him in the stomach,” said Brian’s father.

Brian succumbed to his injuries while he was being rushed to the hospital.

Indeche then turned the kitchen knife to her and attempted to commit suicide but she was rescued by neighbours who rushed her to the hospital.

Ikoli Assistant Chief Walter Moses Namutali says the couple had a troubled marriage and efforts to help them live peacefully were rendered futile.

“I have talked to them many times to try and resolve their differences hoping they would live peacefully but the disagreements have continued,” says Namutali.

The woman is currently fighting for her life at the Kakamega County General Hospital.
