A man was found dead
inside his house in Nairobi’s Umoja Estate on Saturday morning.
According to the
caretaker, Joseph Mburu, he noticed something unusual as he was about to clean
the building.
“As I was walking
down the stairs I realized that one door was open. I went towards it and that
is when I saw the man lying on the floor.
“I rushed to the
nearest police post and reported the incident,” he said.
Asked whether the
man had any health conditions, Mburu said he was not aware but the deceased was
a polite man who lived alone.
Police officers who
arrived at the scene immediately got in touch with officials from the Ministry
of Health and the building was fumigated.
A doctor also
examined the body but said a comprehensive report would be given once the cause
of death has been ascertained.
Despite instructions
from police to observe social distancing due to Coronavirus, neighbours
assembled as they craned their necks to catch a glimpse of the body.
The body was later
taken away by police officers.
On Saturday, Health
CS Mutahi Kagwe instructed Kenyans visiting supermarkets to start wearing protective
masks.
Kagwe said it would
be prudent to avoid transmissions in such spaces since local transmission is on
the rise.
He further called
upon the youth to use their energy to fight Coronavirus in the country by practicing
social distancing and avoiding unnecessary travel.
“If you travel
upcountry there is a possibility you are going to kill your parents and
grandparents.
“Be part of the
solution…we can overcome this,” said Kagwe.
In the last 24
hours, 372 people had been tested for Coronavirus and four were positive.
