A man in Embu County was daring enough to steal from traffic
cops who were on duty along the Nairobi-Meru Highway on Wednesday.
According to witnesses, the man emerged from the bushes and
grabbed the officers’ stash before running across the road.
One of the officers at the scene attempted to run after him
but his efforts did not bear fruit as the man was long gone.
“There are these steep roads that connect to the road, and
the spot where the officers were based is shaped like a wedge. That is the road
the young man used to escape.
On realising he could not catch the young man, the officer
shouted at him many times. But there was little he could do as the man vanished
into the bushes,” said the witness.
“It was like a five-second bank job,” he added.
Apparently, he made away with the officers’ collections for
the day.
For the longest time, Kenyan traffic police have been
associated with corruption, especially when it comes to taking bribes from
motorists.
We have seen videos of such rogue police officers going
viral on various social media platforms.
These videos taint the whole police department, which in
turn makes Kenyans lose faith in them.
However, there are some good traffic cops, as was recently demonstrated
by Kenyans online who called for the promotion of an officer who works in the
CBD.
Only identified as Ben, Kenyans lauded him for his
level-headed approach to traffic matters and equal treatment of all road users.
Several netizens confessed to attempting to ‘give him
something small’ but he declined.
